New Year 2010 is fast approaching and we have made our decision where we are going this year. We needed somewhere that will be adventurous and fun, however, at the request of the wife we have removed the possibility of straying upon another treacherous icy mountain track. The thought of falling off and sliding into the unknown is not Lisa’s cup off tea.
We have decided to visit a place I have heard of all my life but have never visited. When I was a child, I though this village was invented for the purpose of humouring the kids; it turns out to be real.
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch commonly known as Llanfair PG or just plain old Llanfair is a small village just on the fringes of Anglesey. It gets its adopted name from the railway station where you will see the longest place name sign in the UK.
Before we invade our hosts in Anglesey we will head to Llanberis seated at the foot of Mount Snowdon. We will be having breakfast in the world renowned café known as Pete’s Eats. This café has been in Llanberis since I was a child; and then some. It is predominantly a climbers and walkers café but every one is welcome. You can’t miss the café with its brightly coloured exterior walls; a bit like the fictional Balamory; Tobermory to those in Scotland.
After breakfast we will take a tour of Lake Padarn and surrounding area and then on to the slate quarries at the back of the lake to see what dangers are lurking within. With a bit of luck the lake will be frozen so we can all go skating.
That’s the plan anyway.
